On Shrove Tuesday (21st February) 2023, the York Sport Union as part of YUSU confirmed that there will be an opening ceremony for the 2023 Roses competition with Lancaster University.
This will take place on Friday 28th April on the Athletics Track with York Lacrosse Men’s and Women’s 1st teams given the honours of being the ceremony opening fixtures.
The Opening Ceremony is a chance to open the tournament (the first time York have hosted post-Pandemic) with a bang! It will also present an early opportunity (or test) for the new incoming Sport President after the current student union elections.
This confirmation of dates does however mean that York’s Equestrian, Rowing and Athletics sides will all be facing against the Lancastrians before the opening ceremony takes place (on the 19th and 22nd of April respectively).
