On Sunday the 3rd of March, York achieved a resounding victory in their annual intercollegiate Varsity against Durham University, their fourth consecutive Varsity win on the trot.
The best of York’s collegiate and campus sides did themselves and the Uni proud in a resounding 72-48 victory. An away victory for Team Durham was always going to be unlikely, but the York Sport Union will be pleased with a convincing home victory.
The results below have been confirmed. This Varsity results table has been split up into Sport, Teams and Score.
The A Seed fixture (worth five points) is listed first with the B seed fixture (worth three points) listed below. As the home teams, all York collegiate, joint-collegiate and campus sides are listed first with the Durham sides listed afterwards, same goes for the score. In sports like rugby union or netball, the scoring system follows the scoring system of the games but for tennis the score reflects tennis matches won by each side.

Despite a good victory for York, there remain reasons to be cautious, especially as the Uni gears itself for Roses away in Lancaster in May. Last year, York were unable to capitalise on their first ever away Varsity win to feed through into the university sides, culminating in a disappointing shock home defeat. The promotion and activities felt fairly muted, compared to the last home Varsity, and I couldn’t help but think that aside from the YSTV cameras it just felt like another weekend in collegiate sport. Nonetheless, the York Sport Union and President TJ will be relieved that York has succeed in the first major competition with flying colours. A substantially more daunting task awaits the White Roses as they cross the Pennines (with Vision in tow!) in May.
