The first night of Battle of the Bands took place on Thursday 9th February at The Lounge, James College. There was a strong turnout, a lively atmosphere, and a real mix of performances. From saxophone-solo studded Jazz to nostalgic 90s Rock, the event always promises variety and entertainment, and has delivered again this time round.
Run by the University of York Band Society, Battle of the Bands happens annually, welcoming all bands at the University, as well as solo artists. There is free entry to the two heats, which take place on Campus. This is followed by the Grand Final, which takes place at The Fulford Arms in York, one of the liveliest music venues for grassroots musicians in York.
The second round of Heats will take place on the 23rd February at 7:30pm, also at The Lounge, James College, on Campus West. Doors open at 7pm.
Battle of the Bands is one of the most successful student events of the year, winning the York University Student Union (YUSU) Activities Awards last year.
As well as running this event, UOY Band Society regularly meet to form bands, practice and perform live gigs. They run regular sessions to ‘Meet ‘N Jam’ (play music together). For more information about this, visit their Instagram page @uoy_bandsoc.
Membership for Band Society costs £5.00 for a membership to cover the academic year (2022/23). These are available on the YUSU website.
