York SU Equality and Inclusion Officer Ezreal Xie Resigns

Alice Lilley reports on the York SU Equality and Inclusion Officer’s decision to step down from the role prompting an election.

Equality and Inclusion Officer Ezreal Xie has decided to step down from the role due to changes in Xie’s personal circumstances, with the resignation taking effect immediately. 

The role is now vacant and a new election is impending following Xie’s resignation from the role.

The statement posted on the York SU website said: “We are, of course deeply saddened to say goodbye to our colleague and friend so early in the academic year.

“But we wholeheartedly support Ezreal’s decision to prioritise his family at a difficult time, and wish him all the best for the future.

“In the meantime, we’ll be splitting Ezreal’s world and responsibilities among us.

“Equality and Inclusion is embedded into everything we do here at York SU, and we remain committed to ensuring that we uphold the interests of all of our members in every aspect of our work.” 

Nominations for the York SU Equality and Inclusion Sabbatical Officer role opened on Monday 14 October and will remain open until midday on Friday 25 October 2024. 

Voting will open between midday on Tuesday 29 October to midday on Thursday 31 October with the results to be announced on Friday 1 November 2024. 

This role involves advocating for marginalised and underrepresented communities at the University and is a part-time sabbatical role which involves working up to 20 hours per week around studies.
