Following an open tender process, YUSU is partnering with York Parties to provide four weekly Official Club Nights during term time.
This student nightlife lineup will include a new Thursday night venue yet to be announced.
The Sabbatical Officer Team awarded York Parties a two-year contract, stating that their bid “most closely satisfied the requirements of the contract”.
Funding for student activities, established relationships with venues in town, and health and safety were among the considerations used to decide the winner of the contract following YUSU’s recent consultation with students on nightlife.
This follows earlier criticism when the tender process was announced, with one comment on the announcement post claiming that: “Despite constant promises that things will change and alternative student nights will have an opportunity to be an ‘official student night’, nothing has changed in the last 10 years and it always goes to York Parties”.
YUSU and York Parties say they will consider feedback from students throughout the two-year contract period as part of the agreement, which they claim will allow “student input to shape YUSU’s off-campus nightlife offering”.
Following the announcement, YUSU Activities Officer Sophie Kelly said: “After a thorough tender process I’m excited to announce that we’ve chosen to continue working with York Parties who presented the best package for our Official Club Nights. I hope to see you all on the dancefloor soon!”
Adam Jay, owner and founder of York Parties commented: “We are now working hard to deliver an outstanding and exciting programme of events for the 2021/22 academic year. We can’t wait to welcome everyone once again”.
Further details on the nights and venues planned will be announced in the coming weeks.
