The Love York Awards aired tonight, and though it was sad not to report from the event itself, URY hosts Alex West and Naomi Prongs Gildert did a great job making the most budget, boring Oscars you’ve ever seen slightly less boring. Highlights included Vice Chancellor Jefferey’s dapper guest appearance.
New categories this year included the “Green Award” and the “YUSU Student Staff Member of the Year”. Without further ado, these were your winners!
Academic Excellence Award – Josh Toplis
Partnership and Innovation Award – “A Multilingual Experience”
Contribution to Student Wellbeing – Holly Plews (Laura Burke – Highly Commended).
The Liberation in Leadership award – Victoria Cornford.
The Campaign of the Year award – Red Flag Campaign.
Fundraiser of the Year – Kieran McGowan, for his work with Movember
Best Event of the Year – YSTV’s “Please Sir, theres been a murder” (CHMS Chicago – Highly Commended).
Outstanding Contribution to Student Media – Jonathan Wellington.
The Volunteering Award – Tea & Coffee Club.
The Green Award – WILD Magazine York.
Student Group of the Year – Norman Rea Gallery.
YUSU Student Staff Member of the Year – Issy Tee. (Izzy Sims – Highly Commended)
Contribution to Student Life – Alex Spiby.
Each Sabbatical Officer also nominated an unsung hero for their elected remit, awarded to those who do outstanding work behind the scenes. The Unsung Heroes were:
