I am Aiman, a final year studying Accounting, Business Finance and Management, I’m running to be the next Community and Wellbeing Officer, my journey is quite exciting i lived over two campuses and across three different colleges Alcuin, Halifax and Goodricke. I also volunteered as green auditor and Green Impact Project Assistant (GIPA), green auditing infrastructure over campus.I made friends from across the world specially from Azerbaijan, France, Czech, Russia, Norway, Turkey, China, South Asia, middle east and the list goes on. Learning new things about different cultures has been always exciting. I have an objective that students at York whether domestic, international or students on exchange program make most out of university by having every opportunity to learn and excel without compromising on their physical and mental wellbeing.
- Will Work with college teams, sports team to build a welcoming student community on and off campus, I will ensure that they know about events happening across campuses and how to access them. Will spread more awareness about college sports, freezone of bus services, mental health (student minds)and activities to get along with.
- Finding a house is stressful, will continue to conduct events like “search for a mate” or search for a house which will help students getting accommodation.
- Sports I believe is “Support” throughout life, Sports teaches you how to work in a team, how to lead a team, how to handle pressure and my favourite how to handle defeat. This year something remarkable happened as Volleyball Club conducted free one-hour session ,followed by rugby Club to engage students in sports activities. It is possible to conduct free sessions for team sports like Rugby, volleyball, will work out a plan with fellow Sports officer counterpart at YUSU to include team sports like Lacrosse, Cricket, football, net ball to have one-hour free session so students get to know basics about game and they get engaged in sports activities.
- I believe Travel is a “Medicine”, it teaches you about people, how to deal with people, how to engage with them. I will work with Activities Officer to organise more students trip something they have done in the past like the trip to Belfast and Edinburg
- As a student I saw a great divide between campus east and west Colleges at Campus East had far more facilities like access to table tennis, bigger common rooms and instruments some colleges at east even have two sets of pool tables, TT (Table Tennis) tables. I would like to work with my counterpart Sports Officer at the union in arranging facilities like Table tennis across colleges on campus west.
