Campaigning opens – Monday 18th February (week 7)
This is the deadline for candidates to submit their final manifestos and when they can begin campaigning. Looks out for the groups on Facebook, posters all over campus and the candidates themselves coming round to speak to people and promote their policies.
Full-Time Officer debate – Tuesday 19th February (week 7) – V/045 – 7.15pm
Candidates for YUSU President, Activities Officer, Academic Officer, Welfare Officer and York Sport President battle it out in a debate that will take place in v/045 in Vanbrugh. Questions can be submitted on Twitter to @yorkunisu or via the hashtag #yusuelections as well as in person on the night. If you’ve got questions for your Full-Time Officer candidates, want to know where they stand on issues they care about or just need to see how they stand up to each other, then this is the perfect opportunity. The debate will be chaired by former YUSU President and Parliamentary Candidate for York Outer and current leader of the York City Council, James Alexander. Voting opens – Monday 25th February (week 8)
You can start voting for your preferred candidates at www.yusu.org/vote.
Voting closes & Results night – Friday 1st March – The Lounge – 8pm (week 8)
The last day of the five day voting period is also the day that the results will be announced. Head down to The Lounge, the YUSU bar in James College, to watch all the drama unfold and find out who your new YUSU representatives will be. You will also be able to follow all the night’s events minute by minute on a liveblog on the York Vision website.
I can’t wait to get these elections over with. All that cardboard does my head in! Littering uni with campaign slogans takes away from the beauty of campus…
