How was playing YO1?
Grand! It was our first performance with the Double Bass Demon & an excellent opportunity for us to reach out to more people. We’re thankful to both the YO1 & BBC Introducing teams that helped us get on the bill. Big love to John, Ellen, Jericho & Jack for making it possible, also all the Demons who came down to show us some support, we’re nothing without them. Hopefully we’ve won some more Demons too.
What was the best thing you saw?
Lots of friends, together in one place, enjoying music.
Snuff was good opening the Introducing stage. Abstract Hip Hop Orchestra & Mouse Outfit killed it! Dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip & De La Soul were on fire! Highlights also included the Irie Vibes & ATV stages, but the best had to be the House of the Trembling Madness.
Is the Brassed Off speech an anti-Thatcher statement, just a cool sounding sample or something else?
“I chose that vocal sample for a number of reasons, really. Yes, it is broadly political, but I’m not using it to complain about mine closures or Maggie Thatcher. I’m more trying to use it to say something about cuts to arts funding and the value of human life. People often think the music is sampled from Brassed Off as well, but it’s actually an orchestra I recorded in Birmingham. It’s a Rachmaninov piece, if I recall correctly.” – Beat Demon
Why did the Double-bassist and DJ wear skeleton masks?
It projects the imagery we have created for Ceiling Demons into our live show.
They wear masks because everybody wears masks. Some people take them off, some people don’t.
This is the contrast that we are trying to capture when we play live.
What are the band doing next?
We are performing at the 360 Club in Leeds 17th May & Headlining the 2nd stage at Richmond Live 1st August – Yorkshire day.
Also we are planning a show in Richmond, North Yorkshire over Le Tour De France.
Additionally, we recently finished filming a video for our song ‘Amputated Spirit’ which will be out in the near future.
