The display of sport at the tennis courts was reflective of a great Varsity performance by York, with both the men’s and the women’s teams coasting to easy wins over Hull.
The men’s team, led by Peter Masters recorded a comfortable 5-1 win over the visitors with the women’s team, led by Catherine Hanrahan, doing one better and blanking their rivals 6-0 without dropping a single set.
The men’s team comprising of Peter Masters, Nils Morozs, Sam Davies and Max Reby started on fire with Davies and Reby both winning their singles matches in straight sets. Davies won 6-4, 6-4 while Reby won 6-1, 6-2. The only blip of the day came in the first doubles match when Masters and Morozs lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (8-10). York’s winning streak was put back in order in the next doubles match, however, where Reby and Davies won 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (10-6). Masters and Morozs then made up for their earlier loss with convincing straight set singles win, with Masters winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) and Morozs winning 6-0, 6-3.
For the women’s team, comprising of Catherine Hanrahan, Annie Campbell, Vikki Whittaker, Natasha Johnson, Sarah White and Roisin Astell the perfect day started with White winning her singles game 6-2, 6-4. Campbell and Johnson displayed some excellent play to win their doubles game 6-3, 6-3. Hanrahan and Whittaker made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win and Campbell confirmed the win with 6-4, 6-2. Hanrahan and Astell then completed the whitewash with 6-0, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-3 wins respectively.
The tennis teams were on top form in the clash against Hull, lets hope this continues in their BUCs matches.
