A new University bus service to run from Heslington East to Kings Manor and beyond has today been announced by the YUSU President.
The bus will run hourly from the start of next term and will take students through the following route:
- Heslington East
- Heslington Hall
- Boulevard
- Foss Studios
- Student Castle
- City Centre
- Station Avenue
- King’s Manor
- York St. John University
- Sainsbury’s (Foss Bank)
Students’ Union President Sam Maguire said: “I am delighted we have finally been able to confirm the bus to King’s Manor.
“It is such a great step forward and one that has been asked for by students for years.
“The university have been so helpful with this and I wanted to thank University travel and transport for their support.”
The new bus route might look something like this:
The UoY 56 bus route will be operated by First and students will be able to use the new ‘Yorkey’ bus card to pay for travel.
Students will be able to travel one way on a single for £1.50, or purchase a return for £2. A ‘Yorkey’ card will cost £17 and give travellers 20 singles, similar to the current ‘unibus tripper’ card.
The free campus hopper zone will still apply.
Fiona Macey, the University’s Sustainable Travel and Transport Manager, said: “We welcome the new route as it will give students a more convenient travel option.”
