York Ultimate Frisbee Women have reason to celebrate this week, as a stunning performance at this year’s Women’s Indoor Nationals, have seen them place third in the country.
The York Women’s First Team began the weekend seeded eighth in the 20-team, 2 day tournament, hosted in Stoke-on-Trent. Their flowing offensive play, fantastic team work and and strong defense payed off, and after three wins and only one loss against Dundee they ended a highly successful first day of the tournament seeded sixth in the country.
An early start on Sunday morning saw more wins for the York side, as they beat UAE Aye Aye in the 6-11 crossover, followed by a win against St Andrews Flatball and a loss against Trinity College Dublin.
Their final game of the day was the 3-4 final against Southampton Skunks. York pulled ahead in the first few minutes, but Southampton put forward a strong defense, and the remainder of the game saw the two teams trading points. The game ended with a 7-6 victory for York, about which player Laura Coull, said “I think because we’ve played together so much, we knew each others’ strengths and played to them as we faced each new opposition.”
