Halifax 2nds look to be set for a points deduction that could affect their final standing in College Cup Group C.
The two point deduction will come as a punishment for the college’s failure to provide a referee for today’s James 1sts 7-0 win over Alcuin 3rds. College Cup rules stipulate that referees must be provided by sides outside of the group in which the game takes place – the responsibility for which, on this occasion, fell to Halifax 2nds.
The removal of the two points will see ‘fax 2nds drop to within a point of Alcuin 1sts in third place, with runaway group leaders Goodricke 1sts still to play, and could be the difference between competing in the knockout rounds of the Cup or the Plate.
The points are to be deducted immediately, leaving Halifax on five points and the college will not be offered the option to appeal the decision.
