The University of York Futsal Club has set up a donations site to help fund the club’s July trip to Spain, when they will compete at the European Universities’ Championships.
They will play in Malaga after a hugely successful season saw them win the Futsal BUCS Premier League – the first time a sports club from the University has topped the highest national league in any sport.
The side also made the BUCS Futsal Championships’ knockout competition semi-finals, which meant they finished this season inside the top four UK University futsal teams.
The club does, however, need to raise the funds for their trip abroad.
The club said:“Before they can enjoy this fantastic opportunity, all the players need to do a considerable amount of fundraising as neither BUCS nor the tournament organisers subsidise any of the costs of travel, accommodation, or entry fees.
“The club will be working hard to attract sponsorship and organise fundraising events to cover all these costs.”
And York Futsal President Dom Hallas told Vision: “Qualifying for these Championships is a dream come true. We’ve had such an incredible season that none of the lads want it to end, but this is the perfect way to round it off.
It’s a great honour to be the first team from York to compete on the European stage in a competition such as this, and I hope we are able to make our university and our city proud.
It does mean that between now and July we have to raise £7000 to support the costs of the trip. Thanks to support from the University we’ve got over £2000 so far, but we still need more.
Any support to help us realise this dream in Malaga would be hugely appreciated. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming fundraising events, and you can visit our donations page at www.charitygiving.co.uk/yorkunifutsal.”
This summer’s Championships will take place between July 21st and 28th, the ninth European Futsal Championships to date.
