Just ONE person arrived at Greg’s Place this morning to hear rap legend Example announced as the summer ball headliner.
University Radio York hosts Peter Rogers and Cat Soave announced on stage that Manchester indie pop group Blossoms and secretive DJ Jaguar Skills, who wears a balaclava on stage, have also joined the lineup.
The one person watching then left. “Make sure you get them quick because after this I’m sure they’ll sell out pretty quickly,” Cat said.
Peter added: “Thank you for being in attendance, those of you who have been.”
Bungling YUSU bosses also admitted they’d misspelled the name of one of the acts, York-based DJ Doxis, as “Doxius,” on the official announcement poster.
YUSU activities officer Chris Wall told York Vision: “Summer ball is shaping up to be huge this year with loads of tickets already gone and I cannot wait.
“It is the perfect way to sound off the year with everyone you know, fairground rides, casinos, candyfloss and more. Example is huge and Blossoms are going to be big soon, you watch.”
Last year students led an unsuccessful Facebook campaign to have Azeem, of flute recital fame, headline the summer ball after singer Jess Glynne pulled out from the top slot.
Headliners in previous years have included Twin Atlantic and Tinchy Stryder.
Man I am friends with Azeem and at the time he was 100% ready to sign the contract that we’d made an initial draft of, but we needed YUSU staffers to make it all official. And instead of picking the hottest internet sensation of the time to grace York with his flute boxing on his first UK Show ever… YUSU picked slaves.
