YUSU President candidates Dylan Chambers and Dan Whitmore clashed over employability last night.
The current YUSU Academic Officer came under fire by final year student Chambers who accused him of not doing enough on graduate employment during his time in office.
He asked voters: “Dan Whitmore’s been Academic Officer for the last year, have you seen any increase in employability?”
But former undergraduate Dan was backed by students on Twitter who questioned the extent to which the students’ union can influence employability.
The Academic Officer said he never ran a platform on employability because the word means “nothing”.
He told Vision: “Employability is an empty promise. It’s a buzzword. It’s not policy.”
The latest study by High Fliers recently revealed that graduates at the University were being snubbed employment from Britain’s leading employers as they chose students from 20 other institutions.
