A PHOTOSHOOT promoting feminism took place on campus last week.
Messages from students included “no matter what I’m wearing I’m not ‘asking’ for it” and “it’s not okay to call it ‘rape alley’”.
It took place as part of a campaign organised by the university, the Women’s Committee and Amnesty International, and its page on Facebook was supported by more than 1,000 people.
Peggy Lockwood-Lord, one of the YUSU Women’s Officers, told York Vision: “We’re doing this because feminist visibility and visibility of women is always necessary as well as highlighting the need to make activism more accessible for those who may be hesitant to get involved.”
She added that the campaign was about “giving voices to people who wouldn’t necessarily get involved with feminism.”
