For the third time in less than a week, a team has failed to provide a referee for a College Cup match, leading to a two point deduction in the standings. This time Derwent 3rds are the responsible side, failing to provide a referee for the clash between Alcuin 1sts and Wentworth 3rds this afternoon.
First of all it was Halifax 2nds who were guilty of failing to supply a referee on Friday, then Langwith 2nds were responsible yesterday, and now Derwent have broken the rules, highlighting the problems that the College Cup has of supplying referees, especially during the busy examination period.
Derwent 3rds currently sit third in their group, only behind Langwith 1sts by virtue of having scored one less goal. However the point deduction will severely hamper their chances of progressing through to the quarter finals of the Cup, and may even place their position in the plate competition in jeopardy.
Due to the stipulations of the College Cup Derwent will be given no option to appeal the decision, and will move into Friday’s game against Alcuin 2nds sitting in fourth place in the group with only two points.
