Dean Hickey wins Goodricke Chair

Dean Hickey has been elected Goodricke Chairperson for 2013. The former Environment and Ethics Rep beat Matthew Ayres, Alex McDonald and Benjamin Carter to the position.

After the first round of voting, which had a quota of 228 votes for victory, Hickey collected 217 votes to Ayres’  156, while Alex McDonald and Benjamin Carter collected 63 and 13 votes respectively. The process moved into a second round and Hickey overcame the required quota to win, seeing off nearest challenger Ayres by 230 to 182.

One of Hickey’s key aims includes “selling Goodricke as a brand”, increasing the number of corporate partners and securing sponsorship deals with large multinational organisations. Cooperating with YUSU President Kallum taylor, he also intends to secure a cashpoint and shop on Heslington East, and improve the bus service.

While the positions of Vice Chair for Welfare, Secretary and Treasurer were all uncontested, Mason Guerney claimed Vice Chair for Services against opponent Leon Aves and Paul Gallagher won Female Welfare Officer against four other candidates. Tara Annison and Hayley Calvert won another intense race for Social Officer.

  1. Well this is certainly a contentious decision by Goodricke.

This I assume, being the same Dean Hickey that proceeded to delete all his opponents and their campaigns teams off Facebook and block them in a childish fit when he found out the position of Chair was going to be contested and that some people were daring to support somebody else? Setting a great example there Dean, well done!

I really am worried for Goodricke next year. Lets just hope that some of the superb candidates that have been elected to the other ‘executive’ positions will be able to make up for the weak link at the top.

  2. ALWAYS GOODRICKE WHO ARGUE ABOUT PETTY CRAP THAT NO ONE ELSE CARES ABOUT. GOODRICKER, THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY YOU MORON, EITHER SHUT THE HELL UP AND MOVE ON OR CUT YOUR TONGUE OUT YOU VILE BEING!

  3. Dean Hickey’s Facebook friends (checked today):

    – Matt Ayres
    – Benjamin Caterer

Yes he deleted them all off Facebook…Oh wait.

  4. Overheard in Goodricke Common Room from the new Goodricke chair:

    “DEATH TO THE GEESE!”
