On a beautiful May morning, Alcuin 1sts, Goodricke 1sts and James 1sts all recorded victories in the blazing heat, to boost their standings in Group 1.

Alcuin 1sts all but sealed their place in the semi-finals of the cup competition with a fourth successive win, as they beat Halifax 2nds 6-2. A hattrick from Tiffany Deans-Green, as well as goals from Ruth Mason, Alex Wilson and Nick Yates helped Alcuin to victory, and in turn consigned Halifax to their third successive defeat.

Mason opened the scoring early on for Alcuin, before Wilson doubled the lead minutes later. Halifax notched a goal of their own in the first half, but Deans-Green struck twice to extend Alcuin’s lead before the interval.

The intensity of the encounter dropped in the second half due to the heat, but Alcuin added two more goals, before Graeme Osborn bagged a late consolation for Halifax, who will be hoping to end their horrid run of results next week.

Goodricke 1sts also furthered their chances of progressing through to the cup semi-finals, as they defeated Langwith 2nds 7-4. The victory was Goodricke’s third of the campaign and leaves them second in the table, whilst Langwith are yet to record their first points of the tournament.

James 1sts meanwhile notched up their second victory of the tournament against Goodricke 3rds, but they were pushed by a spirited Goodricke side, before they eventually prevailed 6-4.

Both James and Derwent 2nds, who had a week off, sit on six points, and appear to be the main challengers to Goodricke and Alcuin at the top of the table. All the sides have either two or three matches still to play over the next two weeks.
