Goodricke 2nds 3 – 0 Wentworth 2nds
A slick Goodricke Seconds side secured a convincing 3-0 win on Friday over a Wentworth team who never really seemed to find their stride.
The first quarter of the game was tightly contested, not reflecting the overall score that Goodricke would eventually produce. Persistent attacks from both sides emerged, with both teams looking for an early lead. With Wentworth unable to break a solid Goodricke defence, it was well deserved when Goodricke’s Dave Coupland hammered home the first goal of the match.
With the momentum of an early lead, Goodricke continued to surge forward with chance after chance that kept the Wentworth defence on their toes. A free kick awarded to Wentworth gave them their only real chance of the first half, but sailed over the crossbar to the dismay of the team.
Play commenced with the Goodricke side more determined than ever, and Wentworth seemed to lose their heart. With Wentworth descending into scrappy and panicked play, Goodricke captain Nick Dheir – after hitting the woodwork a few minutes earlier – then found the back of the net for his first goal and Goodricke’s second.
With play drawing to a close, a stunning strike from Sam Lewis in the closing seconds secured the final goal for Goodricke. It was a well deserved win with attitude, and the Wentworth 2nds will be disappointed they couldn’t step up to the plate.
