Campus Saddened by Halifax First Year Death

halifaxtiffyHalifax fresher Chris Woodhead sadly passed away last week.

Chris had only just begun his time at York and was studying management. New friends that he had already become close to are amongst those who have written messages of condolence on his Facebook wall.

“I miss you more and more every day Chris. Always thinking of you and your family,” wrote a friend. “Doesn’t feel right that I only knew you for such a short time and that your smile won’t be around to light up York anymore. It’s not the same without you.”

Chris, who hailed from Manchester, described himself online as “just a quiet, down to earth guy that would give the shirt off my back for the ones that I care about.”
He also wrote: “Hate arrogance and ignorance, and hope for good things in the future.”

The campus community has reacted with deep sadness to Chris’ death and the University is offering support to those who knew him.

Karen Fritz, Provost of Halifax College, said: “Although only a few days into his time at the University, Chris was already settling into College life and building new friendships with his housemates.

“The College is a community and the loss of one of its members will be felt by all of us.”
