I am a sucker for well-dressed celebrities. And celebrities who are famous for being well-dressed and rich. What? I’m human and I love to look at beautiful people. And beautiful clothes. And shiny things. Here’s my pick of some excellently dressed and beautiful people at New York Fashion Week.
Taylor Momsen
I never thought that I would be putting Ms Momsen on a ‘best dressed’ list. I’ve always secretly loved her style, she was like a teeny-bopper Courtney Love (who is my idol), but it appears here that she has traded the ratty extensions and panda eyes for a sleek pony and slick, immaculate eye makeup. She’s almost unrecognisable. Her dress is simple and adult, too, and her strappy shoes are to die for. She looks grown-up and simple, yet incredibly stylish.
Rita Ora
The new face of DKNY looked dramatic this week on and off the catwalk. This outfit could look a bit too bold and overcomplicated (it’s never good to try to look as flamboyant as the models unless you’re Daphne Guinness), but she manages to carry it off. I like the smokey eye look, too and am happy that this is back for Autumn and Winter this year because immaculate eyeliner all-too-often becomes unintentional smokey eye after a night in Revs.
Iggy Azalea
Looks like we have another fan of the high, slick ponytail here. Iggy usually doesn’t look exactly high-fashion, she has her own style, sure but Anna Wintour probably wouldn’t be a fan of the graphic-printed crop-top and hot pant combos. And let’s not mention the snapbacks. This dress is stunning, though, the colour really suits her and it shows off her figure perfectly. Again, a simple look wins out. These cut-out bodycons are pretty easy to find on the high street, too, if you want to copy her.
Christina Ricci
Christina manages to make a crop top look classy, adult and polished. Mean feat. You can never go wrong with monochrome and matte red lipstick. The matchy-ness isn’t too much, either, because the white on her outfit is done in tasteful accents rather than block stripes. The accessories really make this outfit work, too, bringing out those accents.
Jaime King
This dress. Oh my god. It’s floaty chiffon pastel, three words which usually make me gag, but she’s managed to make it look edgy, and the chiffon is nicely cinched at the waist and given a stiff collar, so it doesn’t look too floaty. This picture makes me want to put it on and spin around for ages and pretend to be a fairy. Her dramatic eyeliner stops it from looking too cutesy.
Rashida Jones
As an avid Parks and Rec fan, I had to include Rashida. I thought that I was in love with her character, Ann Perkins, but she looks even more beautiful here. Her dramatic eyemakeup, again, is beautiful and even though it is pretty heavy, she carries it off. The necklace is beautiful and turns an outfit which could have been dull into a masterpiece. It goes to show that if you have a good eyeliner, a staple jacket and a statement necklace or two you can transform an LBD into a fashion statement.
