What’s the most important part of your manifesto?
My aims, if elected that’s what I’ll be judged by, the most important of which being ‘to provide BME students with a stronger voice within the University of York’.
How do you differ from the other candidates?
My approach will be very hands-on; I’m not afraid to get my hands messy. I won’t shy away from difficult or controversial issues.
What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?
The way they handled the debate over the ‘Eton-Mess’ incident. They focused on the underlying race issue and were very clear in their response.
What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?
Giving BME students the dedicated representation they deserve whilst simultaneously bridging gaps between students from different backgrounds.
How are you campaigning?
I’m doing everything I possibly can, all under the brand aquiBME. I’m going all around campus, into lectures, into accommodation, trying to get face to face with as many students as possible. Those of which I can’t, I’m reaching to through social media.
What do you like the most about York?
It’s a tie between the sunset outside Ron Cooke Hub and Tuesday nights at Kuda.
What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?
“If you’re thinkin’ about B-M-E, it don’t matter if you’re black or white (or any other colour for that matter)”. Obviously that’s to the tune of the Michael Jackson song “Black or White”.
What do you think about York Vision?
I can’t say I’m a fan, but I do acknowledge that you’re doing a good job for a certain audience.
