Hundreds of visitors poured into York to take pictures with the 32 ice sculptures throughout the city this weekend.
The York Ice Trail 2025 was open on the first weekend of February from 10:00 am to 16:00 pm.
The ice trail is organised by Make It York who chose ‘Origins’ as the theme for this year’s ice sculptures. Each sculpture is inspired by legends, myths and York’s rich heritage.
Each artwork is hand-carved by ice sculpture specialists Icebox and is sponsored by businesses in the city. The trail was first held nine years ago.
Sarah Loftus, managing director of Make It York, said: “It’s a really good event. We know that 40,000 people come over the weekend.
“It’s really family friendly, which is what we want. We are the biggest ice trail in the UK, and we’re going to get better and better.”
The trail involves live sculpting showcases in St Sampson’s Square where trained sculptors create art from blocks of ice.
York businesses and attractions participated in the sculptures including York’s Chocolate Story-book provided by York’s Chocolate Story, A Grand Journey provided by The Grand York and 50 Years of Railway Legends provided by National Railway Museum.
