An email from the Vice-Chancellor and the President of YUSU to students has reiterated the University’s message of solidarity with Ukraine and announced help and support for all affected students and staff.
As stated in the Vice-Chancellor’s latest statement, “As a community, we are shocked and appalled by the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine. Like so many of you across the University of York, I strongly condemn this unprovoked act of war.
“Our thoughts are with any students or staff, as well as their family, friends and loved ones, who are caught up in this dangerous war. We have already reached out to all of our Ukrainian and Russian students to provide support to anyone put at risk by this terrible atrocity.”
The email reiterates the availability of support for anyone affected by the situation, and publicises the collection point that YUSU are hosting every day this week from 10am-4 pm, “Where you can donate clothes, toiletries, and other essentials for people who have been displaced.”
The email also advises students to take care if needing to email anyone currently in Ukraine or Russia, taking precautions to avoid sharing any information which could compromise them.
Similarly, in line with Foreign Office travel advice, the University very strongly advise students not to travel to Ukraine or Russia at this time.
The email concludes with a show of solidarity, “#StandwithUkraine.”
Any student experiencing psychological or mental health difficulties does not have to struggle alone. Support is available through the University at https://www.york.ac.uk/students/health/help/.
