The University of York is falling behind in STEM subjects with Arts and Humanities subjects ranking highest, according to the QS World University Subject Rankings 2025.
The QS World University Subject Rankings 2025 were released this week with York falling behind in STEM subjects including Engineering, Pharmacy and Business Management.
The University ranked highest in Arts and Humanities subjects at 75th.
The University ranked in the top 50 in three subjects.
The University ranked highest globally for Archaeology at 25th, English Language and Literature at 32nd and at 41st for Social Policy and Administration.
York ranked in the world’s top 100 in six other subjects including Linguistics, Performing Arts, History, Psychology, Education and Training and Sociology.
The QS World University Subject Rankings involves 55 individual subjects across five broad subject areas with 1758 institutions included this year.
The Subject rankings were released following York being placed 184th out of 1,503 institutions in the 2025 QS World University Rankings.
The University was ranked 167th in the 2024 World University Rankings.
