In an email to students, Vice-Chancellor Charlie Jeffery announced the extension of COVID-19 measures on campus after a spike in new cases on campus.
He said: “We know the Government’s Plan B will come to an end on Thursday 27 January, but in response to the current Covid situation here on campus, we are continuing some of the measures for at least the next three weeks.
“We currently have just under 400 active student and PGR cases in York, with about half reported in the last few days. This is why we are temporarily continuing some of the Covid safety measures we already have in place, until we start to see a fall in numbers again.”
The continued measures will be in place until at least 11 February and will mean that students are asked to:
“Continue to wear your face covering in all learning and teaching activities and when you’re walking around buildings, unless exempt.
“Keep testing yourself regularly and let us know if you test positive for Covid. Remember, if you feel unwell or are showing any Covid symptoms, please stay at home and get a test before using campus facilities.
“Get your booster vaccination; there will be another vaccination clinic on campus on Thursday 27 January. If you need a first, second or third dose of the Covid vaccine, please do book an appointment.”
The University says it will, “continue to monitor the situation and we plan to review our position in the week commencing 7 February”.
Jeffery said: “I cannot stress enough what an important role each and every one of us will play in the next few weeks to help keep term progressing in the right direction … Not only is this the most important thing to do to keep our community safe and support those more vulnerable, but it will also help us continue to prioritise in-person activity. I am grateful for your help.”
