College Manager Andrew Kerrigan has confirmed that the goods have now been returned, following Tuesday’s email to students regarding the stolen Derwent merchandise.
Kerrigan told Vision that they have recovered £440 of the estimated £400 to £500, and is confident that most, if not all the merch has been returned.
Dr Kerrigan said: “I am pleased to report that following our communication to students on the missing items, the merchandise has been returned.”
Although the police and University security were alerted on the matter, Dr Kerrigan confirmed that no further action would be taken.
Also speaking to Vision, Derwent Chair-Elect Max Humphrey viewed the return of the merch in a positive light: “It feels great to get back the merch as obviously it’s more money for the college we can utilise for events and other activities for students in the future.”
“It also shows the community spirit we have in Derwent, with people coming forward and doing the right thing showing growth.”
When asked if he thinks this issue could happen again, Humphrey said: “I don’t think it will, because we’re making the way we store merch more secure, and I don’t think any student would want to risk the consequences if it happened again.”
Kerrigan also confirmed that the JCRC store is now secure and the merch has been moved out of there.
