For those who thought three days before Valentine’s Day was too late to find a date—think again. Last Tuesday, the University of York’s Medicine and Law Society collaborated to host an unforgettable evening of matchmaking, entertainment, and laughter at the East Campus Piazza building venue.
Their Take Me Out event wasn’t just about finding love—it was about making a difference, with all ticket sales supporting Save the Children charity.
Inspired by the iconic ITV show, the event entailed brave bachelors going on stage in hopes of securing a date. As they showcased their humour, personality, and talents, the panel of potential matches were faced with a choice- pop the balloon if they’re not the one for you or hold onto it tightly if you believe they could be your one true love. With impressive dance moves, solving a Rubik’s cube in a minute and walking across the stage in a handstand; the room was filled with infectious energy, and we can all agree that the eligible single men managed to thoroughly impress both the panel of ladies and the audience.
With an incredible 306 tickets sold, this year’s Take Me Out proved to be bigger than anyone had expected. Reflecting on the success of the event, George Lee, Secretary of MedSoc and organiser of the event, shared his gratitude: “It was a real joy and privilege to organise Take Me Out 2025. I am indebted to Miguel and Abi for co-hosting, to the rest of my committee, and to LawSoc. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped us raise money for Save The Children, a very worthy charity. I hope everyone had an amazing time.”
Alongside all the lighthearted humour and chemistry, this event represented a deeper cause than just finding a cute date for Valentine’s Day. All proceeds made from the ticket sales were donated to Save The Children, a charity that aids in delivering life-saving food, shelter, and medicines straight to where they’re most urgently needed and tackling significant social issues such as women’s rights, child marriage, and equal education for all. This year’s Take Me Out event was successful in raising an impressive £500 for Save The Children! According to their donation page, this amount could provide either 2,940 malnutrition-treating food sachets, 295 midwives’ birth kits, or 20 hygiene kits for newborn babies.
Medical student and contestant in last year’s event, Lucy Eastwood, voiced her support for the generous donation, ‘This is my second year attending Take Me Out, aside from it being great fun, it makes it even more worth it knowing that it is for a good cause.’
Romance and philanthropy may seem like an unlikely pair, but they came together in the most entertaining way at this event. While some may have left with a date and others with just a good laugh, everyone contributed to a remarkable cause. And for those who may have missed out on this year’s Take Me Out, don’t worry – you now officially have a full year to prepare those pick up lines and find your one true love!
