Manifesto Points:

  1. Campaigning to involve students more in the conversation about the growth and development of York Sport centre & village.
  2. Injury rehabilitation support for both physical and mental health.
  3. More support for leaders at both the University sport and college sport level.

Hi! I’m Kim, and I am running to be your Sports officer for 2025/2026. Throughout my time at York, playing sport and representing my college and my university has been an unforgettable experience. It has given me friendships for life and skills I’ll take with me well into my adult life, and everyone who decides to come to York, who loves sport, should be able to feel the same way.

Everyone who participates in sport at York is incredibly talented and that is because of the hard-work and passion everyone has to succeed. Therefore, I want to do as much as I can to provide a better environment for everyone to become the best athlete that they can be.

But out of all the candidates, why should you choose me?:

  • During my time at York I have developed skills, knowledge and connections through 2 years of being Vice President of Sport for Goodricke college, as well as a year on York Sport Union committee. The experiences I have had in these roles has allowed me to learn how both University and college sport run and how certain aspects could be changed for the better.
  • One of my main objectives is to help students feel more involved in the management, maintenance and development of our facilities, and I aspire to do this by advocating for students to take part in discussions involving York Sport Centre, with open and honest communication from everyone involved. While there is a plan in place for the development of our facilities, I want to advocate for an increase in input from those who will benefit from these changes the most.
  • A massive part of sport is, unfortunately, becoming injured. A lot of the time student athletes feel as though they don’t know how to start the road to recovery in a healthy way. I want to review and do more research into the procedures and resources we have and implement changes and potentially additions to this, with the aim of approving athletes’ wellbeing and road to recovery.
  • Leadership roles can be daunting, especially for those who are responsible for larger clubs and college sports. I want to collaborate with sports leaders at both university and college level to learn and improve the support system for the duration of their leadership roles. This will also allow for a bigger platform for more student communities to be involved and be heard.
  • Continuation of the review of Cost of Sport at York – the maintenance of this is vital. I want to make sure that progress in cost of transportation for teams is continued through clear communication with clubs that are impacted the most. I want to develop a system in which consistent reviews of costs are made so that increases in funding can be planned for as proactively as possible.
  • In 2026, college varsity will be back on home soil, and I want to bring as much attention as possible towards it. College varsity means so much to the college sport community and is a huge opportunity to showcase how accessible sport can be and give students more opportunities to compete at multiple different levels. I will work with all groups involved, both in York and Durham, to develop a showcase of how amazing college sport can be at bringing people together.

Don’t get us wrong, the York SU elections are very important. But so much of the election process is formal and serious…which means it can also (at times) be a little bit dull.

But we don’t think it has to be like this. So alongside their manifesto, Vision asked each candidate a series of light-hearted, get-to-know-you type questions. This should give you a little dive into the individual personalities of the candidates:

What would be the theme song for your campaign i.e. Eye of the Tiger?

Live your life by T.I & Rihanna

If your campaign had a mascot, what would it be?

A capybara with a little handball in its hand

If you could only play one sport for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

Handball, only because I haven’t been injured playing it yet (touch wood)

We gave the candidate a word, and asked them to think of what the question would be:

Answer: Rugby

Candidate Question: What sport is very interesting to watch, but a bit difficult to fully understand?
