Manifesto Points
- Enhance Student Wellbeing – Expand mental health support and improve accessibility.
- Improve Living Conditions – Advocate for fairer housing, better transportation, and inclusive facilities.
- Build a Stronger Community – Foster cultural exchange, inclusive events, and better support for international students.
My name is Yihan Lin, and as an international student, I deeply understand the challenges of adapting to a new environment. From housing and transportation to mental health support and accessibility, student well-being is not just about academics—it shapes our entire university experience. Being an international student myself, I have faced the struggles of adjusting to a new culture, accessing resources, and building a sense of belonging. I hope to use my experience to create a more welcoming, equitable and caring campus community for all students, both local and international.
If elected, I will focus on:
Enhancing Student Wellbeing – Expanding mental health support services so that every student can access help when needed.
Improving Living Conditions – Advocating for fairer housing policies and better transportation options to make daily life easier.
Strengthening Community Bonds – Organizing inclusive events that bring students from different backgrounds together to foster a sense of belonging.
Supporting International Students – Improving university services to help international students adjust more smoothly while ensuring fairness in access to resources for all students.
I promise to listen your voices, work closely with university services, and take real action to address your concerns. If you want a campus that truly prioritizes student well-being and inclusivity, vote for me! We can build a better, more supportive university community together.
The manifestos appear here exactly as they were submitted to us. The views expressed in this article do not necessarily reflect the views of York Vision.
Don’t get us wrong, the York SU elections are very important. But so much of the election process is formal and serious…which means it can also (at times) be a little bit dull.
But we don’t think it has to be like this. So alongside their manifesto, Vision asked each candidate a series of light-hearted, get-to-know-you type questions. This should give you a little dive into the individual personalities of the candidates:
What would be the theme song for your campaign?
“Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey
If your campaign had a mascot, what would it be?
My campaign mascot would be a dog. Dogs are loyal, friendly, and always enthusiastic – qualities I want to embody in my campaign. Just like a dog is dedicated to its owner, I am committed to working hard and supporting the student community throughout my term. Plus, dogs are great at bringing people together, and I hope my campaign can do the same by fostering a sense of unity and support among students.
What is your go-to comfort show after a stressful day?
My go-to comfort show is Friends. It’s lighthearted, familiar, and always puts me in a better mood after a tough day.
We gave the candidate a word, and asked them to think of what the question would be:
Answer: A long hug
Candidate Question: What is something that always makes you feel better after a tough day?
