I’m Youssef; Your Master’s degree colleague in Computer Science department. I’m eager to collaborate with you to elevate the academic conversation between us as students and the academic leadership. I’ve held many academic leadership roles and I was lucky of having good colleagues like you where we’ve achieved together a lot and had very successful relationship with academic leadership that made every single academic issue or concern visible, loud and solvable. Dear fellow students,
I am Youssef Mohammed Ahmed El-Sherif, a passionate advocate for academic excellence and
student engagement. As I embark on my journey at the University of York, I am excited to nominate
myself for the position of Academic Officer in the Student Union
I’m coming with wide range of 15+ student/postgraduate academic activities. Initiated a country scale academic initiative called “Konna Zayak” between 2015-2017 where +15000 students & postgraduates still benefits from.
My Vision
My vision for the role of Academic Officer is anchored in three key pillars:
- Enhancing Academic Support: I envision a supportive environment where every student has access to the resources they need to succeed academically. Additionally, have access to external resources and professional networks to put their academic content into business context & requirements.
- Building active channel between Students & academic leaders: I believe in the power of collaboration among students, faculty, and administrative staff. By facilitating open dialogues and forums, we can address academic concerns collectively, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued.
- Advocating students interest in academic departments: By integrating as many from students to assure we’re providing the needed support for them. additionally, we can run panels for seniors, juniors and professionals to discuss disciplines future career.

- Build Bridges: I will work diligently to foster relationships between students and faculty, promoting a culture of collaboration that enhances our academic environment.
- Drive Change: I will champion initiatives that improve access to academic resources, support diverse learning styles, and advocate for policies that benefit all students.

My Qualifications
My professional background as an Upstream Oil & Gas Data Management Expert for +11 years has
equipped me with the skills necessary for this role. I have led digital transformation initiatives, and
managed critical projects that required collaboration across diverse teams.
Some highlights of my career include:
- Leadership: As MENA Data Management Lead at Harbour Energy, I led significant data initiatives that optimized operational efficiency and improved decision-making processes. I managed cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
- Academic Pursuits: I’m attached to learning and academic progress. It may worth mentioning that I graduated through my Bachelor degree ranked 1st in my class when I was already contributing in 7 activities, leading 2 of them and joined 11 scientific field trips. I can others to influence this balance.
- Active Engagement: I have been involved in numerous international conferences and workshops, presenting on topics related to data management and digital transformation. This experience has allowed me to connect with experts and peers, fostering a network that I can leverage for our student body.
