THE UNIVERSITY of York staged one of the largest indoor Ultimate Frisbee tournaments in Britain over the weekend.
More than thirty teams from across the country took part in the annual ‘Yindoors’ event, which was staged across Saturday and Sunday in the Tent. The tournament was open to a wide range of age groups, and included York alumni. In the open league, dominated by men, York won the plate in ninth place, whilst the women’s team took tenth in their league. The overall winners in both leagues were ‘Dazed’, who beat last year’s winners ‘Some Team’ in the final.
The two-day event had a festive, light-hearted atmosphere, with several teams kitted out in colourful fancy dress. The event was also used as an opportunity to sell cakes for charity, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.
York Ultimate’s Jessie Davidson told Vision: “There is a different vibe to Yindoors than you would see at our regional and national competitions – the emphasis is on everyone having a good time rather than winning.”
