Campaign in three words: Vote for representation.
What’s the most important part of your manifesto?
The most important part of my manifesto is the bit where I talk about getting the NUS to actually represent students by fighting on their behalf for their needs and interests. For example, against the raising of tuition fees and the privatisation of the Students Loans Company, both of which have, or will have had, a massive negative effect on the lives of students.
How do you differ from the other candidates?
Making no comment on candidates standing this year, people who stand as an NUS delegate have a tendency to do so because it looks good on their CV when applying for a job in the aforementioned NUS. Beyond pushing the NUS to represent students as they should do, I have no ulterior motives for standing.
What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?
This is difficult, because there were five, and it’s not a position so much as voting on policy. From reading the blogs last year after the conference, it looks like some of the delegates had their heads screwed on and voted well on a number of issues.
What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?
The most important thing about being an NUS delegate is that I would be part of a team that represented York students in the only democratic procedure the NUS has that allows normal members to direct its policy. The role of directing policy of the union that represents every student in the country is likely rather important in itself.
How are you campaigning?
Hopefully, successfully.
What do you like the most about York?
I feel really very safe here.
What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?
Vote for someone who will actually vote for your interests, not just for deals at the Co-Op.
What do you think about York Vision?
I literally can’t get enough of it. I have it with all of my meals.
