Vanbrugh’s V-Bar has finally been refurbished following last year’s initial rejection of the plans.

Following the release of a preview photo by Commercial Services on Facebook on Wednesday, York Vision can reveal the full extent of the refurbishment of the much maligned bar.

The £16,000 revamp sees the bar transformed with new lighting, an outer separating wall and new furniture, as well as a soon to be installed brand new sound system in the first major changes the bar has seen since 2004.

With nods to Vanbrugh’s musical reputation, and opinions from the JCRC sought as part of the plans, the bar has been, according to Commercial Services’ Rena Quarton, “renewed and refreshed”.

Quarton added: “I appreciate everybody’s support in helping us achieve all of this. I hope that Vanbrugh students and the rest of campus find it a welcoming place to drink”.

Vanbrugh Chair Matt Stephenson told Vision, “I am so pleased that the refurbishment of V-Bar has finally taken place. It has taken a huge amount of hard work and perseverance from the whole JCRC, but Vanbrugh students now have the bar which they have deserved for a long time.”. The refurbishment had previously been delayed due to estimated costs of £135,753 plus VAT.

This year also sees changes on Heslington East, with the opening of the new YUSU-run Langwith bar next month, and on the Heslington West campus, where Sky TV is expected to be installed in Derwent bar for the coming term.
