University Radio York has won six awards at the Student Radio Awards 2013 in London.
Although URY did not take home the Best Station Award, it did win gold and silver in the Best Speech category.
The radio added to its awards tally by scooping a silver for Best Newcomer, silver for Best Technical, bronze for Best Entertainment and the bronze Kevin Greening Award.
Presenter Harry Whittaker, winner of two of URY’s six awards, said: “Winning two awards in the evening topped off an incredible day, during which I was somehow allowed into Radio 1 and Global. The awards are such an important stepping stone to a career in radio, and I’m massively proud of what my team and I have achieved. I’m already looking forward to next years awards.”
University Radio Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University’s Fly FM also took home six awards at the prestigious event, hosted at London’s IndigO2 by Radio 1’s Grey James and Capital FM’s Dave Berry.
Supported by Global Radio and BBC Radio 1, the awards were attended by several leading figures from the industry including Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills and Global Radio’s Director of Broadcasting Richard Park.
