The University of York is the best in the north, according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2014.

THE survey stated that “York is a genuinely world-class university that is hovering on the fringes of our top 10 once more this year.”

York was rated 11th in England, two places up the table from 2012, where it was rated 13th.

The University of Sheffield was the highest for student satisfaction, with 84.6% as opposed to Yorks 84.1%.

Graduate prospects for York were claimed to be 73.9%, as opposed to University of Hull’s 54.8%.

The supposed average sum of money spent on each student at the university of York is £1,996. This is much higher than Leeds Trinity which spends just £1,001, and is rated bottom of the list of Northern Universities on the list.

York was invited to join the the Russell Group of leading Universities in 2012, which was testament to how good the university had become in just over 50 years.

The University of York was named the 7th best young university in the world under 50, however after having celebrated its 50 year birthday this year, this achievement will be short-lived.

A University spokesman said: “This confirmation that York is firmly in the top rank of UK universities is a clear endorsement of both of our academic quality and the rewarding student experience we provide. It is testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff. The Times and Sunday Times assessment of York as ‘a genuinely world-class university’ is a recognition of the huge strides we have made in our first 50 years.”

Molly Cresswell-Baro, a Third Year History of Art student expressed delight at the news, saying:

“Well, I think its a very just rating, York has a beautiful campus, great collegiate atmosphere and the teaching I’ve received in the History of Art department has been stimulating and attentive.”

Tara Annison, a Philosophy 2nd Year, commented:

“It’s nice to be recognised since we are such a small Uni. We’re going from strength to strength since we joined the Russell group and I think we are now finding our feet among the top Universities in the UK. People are going to be ranking us within the Oxbridge league before we know it!”

    That’s a nice thought when I’m spending £9K a year on fees…

  2. @Yorkerrrr

I wouldn’t get your hopes up, Durham haven’t managed it yet.

Dork maybe. Although that doesn’t have a great vibe
