Criminally underrated and unknown by those that I have launched into sermons of veneration to, The Lowther sits on the banks of the River Ouse, and has been known to become semi-aquatic when York floods.
The interior design is a hotchpotch of wannabe Spearmint Rhino with the wooden panelling of a proper pub, but this does not detract from the fact that triple vodka mixers are obscenely cheap at £2.70 on the right day.
Music is dictated by jukebox or Eastern European music channels on television, which makes for an eclectic atmosphere.
The Lowther doesn’t quite know what it is design-wise, but its offer of a cheap ticket to liver cirrhosis, and that’s good enough for me.
