Seven nights of cheese

York’s never been criticised for having too few cheesy pop venues, but here at Vision we wanted to make all your musical dreams come true. Is it possible to go a whole week without ever hearing music that doesn’t have an accompanying dance or wasn’t played at your primary school discos? In York, the answer is no. So why not embrace your inner cheesy pop every night of the week?!

Monday – Willow
The Big Daddy, the hot tamale, the original cheesy night out in York. Prepare yourself for waving fistfuls of prawn crackers in the air as ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ comes on, and bellowing ‘Glee RUINED this’ to anyone not glued to someone else’s face by 2am.

Tuesday – Reflex
Try to ignore the resemblance of the ‘revolving dance floor’ to a kebab rotisserie as partially clad women and gyrating men are displayed at a 360 degree angle for all to see at this ’80s themed nightclub. And if you just can’t handle another hen party bawling along to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, perhaps flinging yourself off the rodeo bull will induce severe enough concussion to blank out all memories of the night.

Wednesday– Flares
Purportedly a ’70s nightclub, but as its website enthusiastically explains they “have broken out and now give you the best party tracks from the other decades.” So really, just like Reflex but without the gimmicks.

Thursday–Indecent-Stereo
Indecent is actually an indie night, but it seems Stereo noticed a gap in the market and is bringing guilty pleasures to the back room from 11pm. Thank you Stereo. Thereo.

Friday – OUTrageous
OUTrageous is Blue Fly’s gay night, I have to warn you that camp classics and cheesy pop are only intermingled with chart hits and dancefloor favourites, but never fear, when the cheese comes, it’s pure Roquefort.

Saturday – Lollypop
Duchess’ Saturday Club night suffers from a bit of an identity crisis, claiming to play the full spectrum of cool to uncool music, the sexy to the silly, the old to the new. We imagine that’s only within the Now That’s What I Call Music back catalogue but we’re waiting for them to surprise us with some Shostakovich after that manifesto.

Sunday – Camp David – Mansion
Camp David has returned to Mansion on Sunday which answers that age old philosophical question: does Mansion exist beyond Wednesday nights? Well, apparently it does and it plays ‘the campest music around.’ Good to know, Mansion, where else would we go without you?
