The Royal family swooped dangerously low over campus in their private helicopter, possibly breaking the law, Vision can exclusivley reveal.
The aircraft dived down over the University without landing and came within metres of the ground. It also flew perilously close to student houses. The Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that this usually contravenes flying rules.
The rebel royals have not been identified but they are believed to have included the Duchess of Kent, who was giving a speech at the University the day before.
Students reported witnessing the dangerous flight in the Halifax College area and then saw it continue towards Goodricke. The incident was filmed by a student on his mobile phone and uploaded to Facebook. His video strongly suggests the chopper was flying illegally over campus.
However, the registration number on the helicopter gave the game away and authorities confirmed to
Vision: “It is used by the Royal Family when travelling to various events.”
One shocked student who saw the plunging helicopter said: “I couldn’t believe how low it went. It could have been really dangerous!”
He added: “To find out that it was the Royal Family is just outrageous.”
It has also emerged that a military helicopter may have broken aviation laws by flying too low as well. The ‘Sea King’ aircraft was spotted over the University in April but has only now been identified.
