Men’s teams by captain Baillie Watterson
Men’s badminton has always been dominated by York, who have only once in their history not been victorious. This year sees a lot of new faces in a team who have all stepped up to perform in their respective leagues, despite a significant improvement in the standard of our opposition compared with last year. After an impressive win in Varsity this year, both mens teams are aiming for convincing wins. High class badminton and some big personalities makes this a must see for Roses
Prediction 7-2 wins for both teams, provided everyone wakes up in time for the early start!
Ladies by captain Clare Breare
After a very successful year in the BUCS league, dropping only two games throughout the season. As seen in reaching the Cup semi-finals, the Ladies are in prime position to take Roses for York. Having a strong history against Lancaster, this year, with arguably our strongest overall team yet – we’re hoping our BUCS performance will set us in good stead. With two strong, consistent and confident pairings, and some tricky play paired with a ridiculously good defense from fresher Dani Farsiani, ladies badminton will be one for the York crowd.
Predicted score = ???? I’ll take a win with any score!
Mixed by captain Cassandra Brown (co-captain Tom Dainty)
After last year’s shock defeat in the deciding end of the mixed badminton, York are hungry for a win. Despite obvious pressure on their shoulders to win back their title, this year the Mixed A team have performed excellently, maintaining their position in the top York and district badminton league. Having had a strong and consistent 6 player squad all year will help them in Lancaster – the pairings are disciplined in training together and my co-captain Tom Dainty is also determined to bring home a win. The player to watch would be fresher, Andrew Henderson. He’s a lefty with a stunning back hand, something envied throughout mixed badminton. I couldn’t predict an exact score but I do anticipate a win; they have all trained hard and the team is certainly feisty – come on York!
BANG ON!!!!
