The Badminton club will be looking to extend an impressive record of victories at Roses, with York having won the men’s, women’s and mixed games for the past two years.
The Women’s 1sts team finished second only to Sheffield in the Northern 2B league, who they lost to at the end of the campaign. The team will be looking to bounce back from this defeat against Lancaster and can be confident with a very commendable finish in the league.
Lancaster finished in fourth place in the Northern 1A league and will make for tough opponents for the girls in a match that is sure to be a thriller. The women’s 2nds also finished second in the Northern 3B league. The Men’s 1sts go into Roses off the back of a more indifferent run of form, finishing forth in league and reaching the quarter final in Northern Conference Cup, though Lancaster’s men’s team finished in the same position in Northern 2A, which could make for a tight encounter!
The men’s 2nd and 3rd teams finished fourth and sixth respectively in the northern 4B league and so will be looking to improve in the biggest sporting event of York’s calendar.
Badminton president Andy Henderson told Vision he believes his teams have the quality to return to York victorious. “Badminton have always done well at roses, however Lancaster seem to be doing well in their leagues this year so it should be a tough match! I’m confident in the team’s abilities and I hope we can get a clean sweep of points for York!”
