Little Black Book of York: The Slug and Lettuce

The Slug and Lettuce –  1 Low Ousegate

What’s it good for?: A range of tasty cuisines at an affordable price.

How much does it cost?: A two course meal is generally about £12, and that’s before all the offers which should bring it comfortably below a tenner.

When should i go?: Perfect for a flat outing, and Monday nights are the best for offers.

Located in the centre of town with scenic views over the river, the Slug and Lettuce is a perfect place to treat yourself to a delicious meal out. Essentially a high class pub restaurant, this chain restaurant/bar offers a wide range of different meals from hearty burgers and sumptuous salads, to multicultural pasta and curry dishes. It’s easy to find, and to make it even better – the university bus stops right outside the restaurant.

This is a perfect place for an outing with your flatmates, where there really is something for everyone’s pallet. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served, so you can pop in during a shopping trip to town, or for a more memorable evening occasion. As well as the delectable food, a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are on offer, including an array of delightful cocktails, which are two for the price of one.

All of this is available at an affordable price, with an average two course meal being under £15, which won’t burn a hole in your wallet after one outing, particularly if you venture down on a Monday. On Monday’s, their promotional offer provides customers with 50% off all food. It’s fairly popular though, so make sure you arrive early to avoid the disappointment of missing out on a table.

Another appealing option for large parties is the buffet option, whilst for curry lovers Tuesday is the night for you, as it’s two for one on all curries. If that isn’t enough every day you can get two desserts for the price of one, with the delectable choices ranging from a scrumptious lemon crumble tart, to a heavenly sticky toffee pudding. The standard of the food is excellent; if you don’t believe me head down and have a taste for yourself.
