With Willow and Mansion out of the way we’re now onto the clubs that have cast their lot in with YUSU. Up this week is Vodka Revolution, home of vodka. Last year saw YUSU pick up Revs to fill the Sunday night slot, setting a death sentence on the always excellent, unofficial SNG (Sunday Night Gallery). This is something for which I am yet to forgive Revs. Still, because I have journalistic integrity, this profile will be free of any bias. Honest.
Playing up to its new position in the YUSU timetable, Revs decided to expand last year, taking over the exceptionally unclimactic club Orgasmic next door and knocking down the walls in between to create a much larger venue. Quite how they failed to create any actual dance floor will be forever incomprehensible. But, to be fair, it does now have more individual spaces that play different music, and it now has an overpriced rum bar as well as an overpriced vodka bar so I really can’t be too skeptical.
Location?
Along the high street, right next to the City Screen cinema. It’s also just a minute away from Willow which can only be a good thing.
Famous for?
Vodka. And the absence of any clear dance floor. Is it a bar? Is it a club? Who knows.
Bargain Booze?
You can get 6 shots for £5. Aside from that, drink deals seem to be a bit of a non-concept for Revs.
Most likely to encounter?
You can guarantee there will be a crowd from York Uni. To narrow it down from that though is a bit tricky. People particularly desperate to go out on a Sunday? Fans of overpriced cocktails? Anyone who opposes the idea of a dance floor? It is a hot night for locals so if ‘pull a local’ is on your list of things to do before you graduate then Sunday Revs could be your lucky night.
Least likely to encounter?
Students who care deeply about staying out of their overdraft. Those £7.50 cocktails were not made for the frugal lifestyle.
Sounds like?
Your Spotify party playlist.
When to go?
Sunday nights. It being YUSU-sponsored, you can get discounted entry.
