Professor Green has been announced as the headliner for this year’s Live & Loud Freshers event. The news was revealed by YUSU President Kallum Taylor on his Facebook page this afternoon.
With two ‘gold’ classified albums released in the last three years, Green marks one of the most commercially successful artists York has booked in recent years. His single, ‘Read All About It’ featuring Emile Sande reached the top of the UK singles chart last year. He is currently recording his third solo album.
The night marks the first time that the Heslington East campus has been used for a major event, with the new one-stage format ensuring that all ticketholders are able to see the headline acts – something that YUSU have drawn criticism for in recent years.
Taylor told Vision, “We’re absolutely buzzing to announce Professor Green as our headline act for Live & Loud 2012! With the event going over to Hes East this time around, he’s just the calibre of act that we wanted to top off what’s looking like one the best events ever pulled off on campus, by YUSU.”
“We’ll be announcing the remaining signed acts over the next ten days, along with all the other ins and outs which we’re throwing your way. Speaking on behalf of the other YUSU officers, I can safely say that we’re genuinely feeling good about this show, and how it’ll kick start the year ahead.”
“At risk of being too blatant here, I really will say that if you can help it, then don’t be the guy who missed out!”
Third-year student Bertie Baker-Smith gave his reaction, saying “Amazing! Finally a headliner I’ve heard of!”
Muzzy Foley, another third-year student, said “Pro green bounces around the stage like a rapper possessed, or more like a kid with ADHD on a sugar high, he brings energy and stage presence by the bucketload, not to be missed!”
Two further acts have still yet to be announced. Taylor has already stated that at least one of these will be a “‘proper’ band”.
Last years Live & Loud ball saw The Pigeon Detectives and DJ Fresh headline in an evening that spanned across The Lounge, Central Hall and Vanbrugh Dining Hall. The restricted capacities of these venues lead to some students complaining that they were unable to see the headliner sets.
Tickets are currently on sale via the YUSU website at a price of £25.
OHHHHH SSHHIIIEEEEEET SON
Bets on him not showing?
Don’t you mean DJ Fresh and Rizzle Kicks?
Pretty rubbish headliner to be honest, me and the rest of my friends who were thinking of splashing out £20 odd have now decided against it. Pretty poor choice in our opinions.
Nice one – I’ll have a little nibble on some tree bark to celebrate this
