Kent-born princess of pop Pixie Lott is best known for her irritatingly catchy singles Mama Do and Boys and Girls, released back in September. Lott’s slightly retro and inoffensive style of pop and soul rivals the likes of Duffy and Natasha Bedingfield, and it’s safe to say that their influences are present throughout this easy listening album.
The title track is Gaga-esque and fun; girly ballad Gravity proves Lott’s vocal talent and Nothing Compares is surprisingly heartfelt in places. Here We Go Again, however, falls victim to less than adequate lyrics, even for a guilty pop pleasure. Reference to the ceiling spinning and a boom in Pixie’s little head is about the worst on the record, however for the most part, the lyrics are acceptable.
This album is perfect for either teenagers or anybody who likes to get their girly groove on in their bedroom before a night out. The tracks cover diverse topics such as boys, parents, and, well, boys. Only time will tell if Lott can compete with Britain’s latest influx of easy-on-the-eye artists, but one thing’s for sure, she’s a talented vocalist with long enough legs to go far.
