Event: Archery
Date of Birth: 3rd November 1971, Age 40
Career Highlight: Winning a bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics
Did you Know?: Williamson was awarded an MBE in the 2012 Birthday Honours List
For Alison Williamson, the archer who is a member of the Long Mynd Archers club, London 2012 will be her sixth consecutive Olypmics. Her Olympic career started back in 1992 at Barcelona, and after finishing between 8th and 10th in three Olympics, she made her breakthrough in 2004.
There in Athens Williamson put in an excellent performance to return home with a bronze medal, the greatest result of her career. There was disappointment though for the woman born in Melton Mowbray in the 2008 Olympics, as at Beijing she could only finish 17th in the individual, whilst narrowly missing out on a medal in the team event, ceding bronze to the French.
In 2012 Williamson then added to her medal tally at the Delhi Commonwealth games, where she won silver in both the team and individual events. Over the past decades Williamson has been a fantastic servant for her sport, helping to raise its profile in Britain, and competing at the highest level.
Achieving a medal in London will be a tough challenge, but is not impossible. Also with the added advantage of a supportive home crowd, Williamson could possibly be roared on to the greatest success of her life, which would cap off a fine career. Fingers crossed.
