Students keen to open their own business this month are in for a bit of a surprise.
Popular crowd funding project YuFund has announced a boost in funding – with promises of DOUBLING the amount of cash usually on offer.
They have called on students to apply within the two month limit, with a requirement that entrepreneurs raise the initial £500.
Susie Forthergill, Head of Development and Alumni relations, told Vision: “We’re excited to be able to boost the support available to projects on the platform by offering matched funding from YuFund in addition through May and June!
“YuStart is proving a fantastic way of enabling the University to involve friends, family and alumni in funding innovative ideas and projects from clubs, societies, volunteering projects and departments through the power of social media.”
The university became the first in the UK to launch its own crowdfunding platform in January. YuStart has since generated nearly £10,000 in funding for a range of innovative student projects.
Projects to date have included volume 5 of The Looking Glass Anthology, a short film – “Psyched”, and The York Spring Festival.
The YuStart team have also announced a workshop where the team will be giving advice, as well explaining the YuStart process step by step.
Guest speaker – student entrepreneur and social media guru – Will Howard, will be there to give advice on maximising social media networks and how to replicate his own crowdfunding success.
Students and societies interested can visit the event on Wednesday 14 May in Heslington Hall from 3.15pm-4.45pm.
