Name: Madeline Boden
College: James College
Year: 3
Subject: English Literature (will be doing an MA in History of Art)
Campaign in three words: Experienced, reliable, innovative.
What’s the most important part of your manifesto?
Trying to raise money for the Network in the coming year. We’re drastically underfunded and I’d like to solicit sponsorship from a number of local organisations, use the crowd funding scheme YUSU has set up and potentially selling LGBTQ Network merchandise to make sure we can run the best possible campaigns.
How do you differ from other candidates?
I think my experience with LGBTQ and welfare at York sets me apart from the other candidates. I have been involved with LGBTQ since my first term at university and have been able to split my time between LGBTQ Social, Network, James College LGBTQ representation and sitting on the York Pride committee. This means I’ve had a lot of different experiences dealing with LGBTQ welfare and representation at York and I’m best prepared for the job.
What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?
What struck me about the previous officers, Maddie and Conor, was their effervescent beauty. You’d walk into Willow after an Icebreaker and see their sweaty, drunken magnificence and that’s an image that doesn’t leave you anytime soon. Plus, have you had a look at the hair on her?!
What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?
Making sure that YUSU is moving forward as a union that supports all of its liberation and welfare groups, including LGBTQ.
How are you campaigning?
It’s really important to me to talk to as many people in the LGBTQ Network as possible. The Network is holding an election Q&A during campaigning, so I hope to speak to as many people as possible there.
Plus good ol’ cardboarding, postering and social media tactics. I may also have a trick or two up my sleeve….
What do you like the most about York?
The residential, non-student neighbourhoods. People own some nice houses in town! They’re lovely to go walk around and look at on a sunny day.
What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?
Just look for the big hair.
What do you think about York Vision?
That’s a fun question.
Maddie is the perfect example of a YUSU narcissist trapped in their own ridiculous bubble. I wonder if she knows the truth deep down… Maddie is an embarrassing figurehead to the majority of the students she is meant to represent. I imagine most students will vote for Maddie because she’s a recognizable face, unaware of her cringeworthy, loudmouth antics that have driven many away from YUSU participation this year.
Represent us, oh special one.
Lol at the comment above.
Wow, that’s pretty harsh stuff there. Sounds like someone’s harbouring personal ill content and using it as a legitimate platform of criticism.?!
LGBTQ has actively sought to provide inclusive activities for the variety of individuals it represents this year and with great success.
With Maddie spear heading these as one of the LGBTQ officers, she has great incentive to run again and hopefully with great success.
